Profile of Baughman Township
Baughman Township is located in the Northeast Quadrant of Wayne County, Ohio, due East of the City of Orrville and South of the village of Marshallville. Baughman Township also borders Stark County on the East.
Baughman Township collaborated on this project in part due to the recent drafting of a township comprehensive plan. During the planning process, it was evident that manure was an issue and an asset for the community. The trustees believe that this project will help educate the land owners and non-farm residents about the nutrient value of, proper handling of and opportunities related to manure.
A few facts about Baughman Township, taken from their comprehensive plan:
- Baughman Township has a strong agricultural base with over 500 farms- of all sizes. The township has seen confrontation between agricultural and residential interests. Some issues have arisen due to the large farms. There are approximately 5,000 dairy cows in a square mile block in central Baughman Township.
- Baughman Township has a strong base of volunteer activity. This includes 4-H clubs, volunteer fire departments, grange, adopt a highway, etc.
- The township is facing increasing pressure from development in agricultural areas.
- Baughman Township residents attend six school districts and are served by four fire departments.
