Countryside is Growing!

05-Jun-2018

In case you haven't heard - Countryside is growing!

A New Market! A New Program! New People (wanted)!

Big Update #1 - We are preparing to open a year-round public food market in Downtown Akron's Northside Lofts building. We'll be located just below the Northside Marketplace. This nearly 10,000 square foot space will be home to our Food Markets, Artist's Fairs, Special Events, Farm & Food Biz workshops and soooo... much more!

We hope the fun will start late in July when we open with 2 weekly market days, Saturday and Sunday. We plan for Saturday's to be an afternoon food-filled and market with a fun street fair feel. Sunday mornings we'll be bringing you fresh local produce from the area's finest Farmers, as well as lots of ready-to-eat and value added food.

Over time the space will evolve into a full on Public Food Market (like a smaller Westside). We envision lots of fresh food, eateries, unique locally made artisan retail and all in an inviting, fun space for everyone!

If you are a Farmer or Local Food Producer and are interested in joining us as a vendor, contact Tracy Emrick temrick@cvcountryside.org

Don't worry, we are continuing to host and grow ALL our other Farmers' Markets too!

Countryside's Farmers' Markets at Howe Meadow, Highland Square's Will Christy Park and at Old Trail School in the Winter!

We'll be sharing more details soon so keep an eye out!

Big Update #2 - We've launched our Beginning Farmer Intern and Apprentice program this year! This first pilot year will begin our work to grow the next generation of food producers and farmland stewards! Our first Apprentice was selected and placed at Trapp Family Farm. Katherine Shultz has farming experience and has worked with several local Ohio farms. Aspiring to owning her own farm enterprise someday, Katherine is hoping her time with Trapp Family Farm will allow her to hone her skills and learn additional subject matter in farm business and record keeping.

Open applications for apprenticeships for 2019 will come out in late Fall 2018.

We do have 2 openings for seasonal farm interns! You can apply here. The Farm Internships are perfect for people with little experience but a lot of passion for local food and restorative agriculture.

Big Update #3 - We are hiring! All this growing means our amazing staff needs to grow too! Check these positions out and share if you know someone!
