Farmers' Market Manager Blog - Hello from Alicia

Hi there! If you don’t already know me, please allow me to introduce myself and our newest farmers’ market. My name is Alicia Hall and I am the manager for the year-round Countryside Public Market in Akron. Every Sunday we host an indoor farmers’ market from 10am-2pm with local live music and amazing food producers and artisans! Countryside Public Market is a space for community where all are welcome to shop and get to know each other, as well as the food they are eating! In the upcoming weeks you’ll also get to know the market really well through this blog so don’t be a stranger, come for a visit and say hello!

What can you find at Countryside Public Market right now? That’s a great question! Each week we’re adding more and more fresh produce and increasing the diversity of products at the market! This week you can find fresh salad greens, kale, microgreens, green onions, eggs, flowers, fresh baked breads, honey, cheese and live plants among other locally made food products like salad dressings, jams, nut butters, chocolates, crackers, kombucha and more! This week we also welcome our newest vendor, Hummavore, to the market with their line of flavorful hummuses! If you’re looking for a bite to eat while you shop, you won’t be disappointed; we’ve got hot ready-to-eat foods like pierogis, soups and more!

Help us celebrate the season this Sunday with our Spring Social market! There will be fun for the whole family; kids will enjoy making their very own Pollinator Seed Throw ‘N Grows and adults can enjoy a locally crafted beer while listening to live music from Terry Ellis! I will also be giving a free market tour at 12:30pm for anyone interested.

What is a market tour? Another great question, thank you for asking. I’ll be giving tours once a month for anyone who might have a few questions or who wants to gain some insight from our vendors. We want to help bridge the gap between you and the food you eat and help you get to know your farmer and local food producers! We’ll go over things like Produce Perks, SNAP and other forms of payment we accept, what’s in season, why buying local matters, upcoming events at the market and our Local Loyalty Rewards program. Each week we’ll stop to talk with 2-3 different vendors and they’ll tell you about their products and why they are so passionate about what they do! Market tours are also a great way to build community and meet other passionate folks who want to eat fresh, healthy food and support local businesses! I hope you’ll join us for our first tour this Sunday at 12:30pm!

I’m looking forward to all that’s in store for Countryside Public Market and getting to know you better! If I don’t see you this Sunday (or on the 5th), mark your calendars for our special Mother’s Day market on the 12th! Countryside Public Market and the Northside Marketplace are teaming up to make 21 Furnace St THE place to take mom for a Mother’s Day treat! Keep an eye out in our upcoming newsletter for more information on that event!

See you at the market!
