Welcome, Winter Markets!

Wednesday, November 05, 2014

Countryside Farmers’ Market returns to Old Trail School this Saturday for another season of local food. The market features farmers and food producers from Northeast Ohio and will take place on select Saturdays from November through April, 9:00am-12:00pm.

Many people arrive at the markets unsure of what to expect.  After all, when it's freezing outside, what can possibly be growing?  But thanks to season extension techniques like high tunnels, local farmers are able to keep us in produce year-round.  Customers will find storage crops like apples, potatoes, and winter squash, but also fresh, hardy greens like kale and chard.  In addition to fruits and vegetables, market goers can expect to find sustainably-raised beef, bison, chicken, turkey, and pork, farm-fresh eggs, handcrafted cheese, baked goods, jams, coffee, tea, and fresh pasta, as well as gifts like handmade jewelry and stained glass art.

While ready-to-eat breakfast foods have always been a part of Countryside Farmers’ Market, this season will feature new brunch offerings from The Spice Companies, owners of Spice Kitchen + Bar, and Spice of Life Catering Co. Visitors can catch up with friends and listen to live music while digging in to menu items like a Good Night Waffle with maple syrup and whipped cream, and Veggie Shakshuka featuring baked eggs in a charred tomato and pepper sauce.

The first Countryside Winter Farmers’ Market will take place on Saturday, November 8 from 9am - noon at Old Trail School (2315 Ira Rd). The market is free and open to the public. Cash, check, debit cards, and the Ohio Direction Card are accepted for market purchases.
