Countryside Farmers' Markets

Depending on the market location, most volunteer opportunities run from 9am until noon at Howe Meadow and Old Trail School, and from 4-7pm in Akron. Deviations are noted.

  • Market Set Up 6:30 am – 9:00 am (Howe & Old Trail School) or 2-4pm (Akron). Unload market van and assist in setting up tents, tables, merchandise, etc. Assist vendors in unloading products and setting up their spaces. Some lifting required.
  • Market Tear Down 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm (Howe &OTS) 7-8pm (Akron). Assist in tearing down tents and display areas, taking out trash, collecting parking signs, loading market van, etc. Assist vendors in returning product to their vehicles. Some lifting required.
  • Parking Management 8:45 am – 12:00 pm (Howe Meadow only). Partial shifts are also available. Work with other volunteers and a police officer at the street to direct traffic during market hours. Safety vest and flags will be provided by Countryside.
  • Zero Waste/Compost Table 8:45 am - 12:00 pm (Howe Meadow only). Educate customers on composting at the market, sort market trash and compost, share information about local composting resources, and demonstrate the impact composting has on our community and environment.
  • Information Table Greet customers and provide information as needed. Must become familiar with Countryside’s programs, general park information.
  • Market Counters Use a manual clicker to count customers as they enter the market.
  • Market Photographer Take photographs of the market for the use of Countryside. Photo credit may be given, if desired. Photos should be in .jpg format and uploaded to Countryside via an agreed upon medium (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) Photographers should use their own equipment, and Countryside is not liable for any damage that may occur while volunteering.
  • Market Special Events 8:30-12:30 (Howe & OTS) or 2-7:30pm (Akron) or portion thereof. Various tasks as required by event, including slicing tomatoes, providing customer information on where to purchase items, assisting with setting up and tearing down of special event spaces, helping children with games, and more.

Countryside Office- currently our office volunteer positions are full

  • Clerical Tasks Flexible hours; Data entry, merchandise inventory, resource library organization, others as needed. 
  • Guerilla Marketing Flexible hours. Distribute informational flyers to various spots in the community. Must be willing to drive.
  • Donor Prospect Research Flexible hours. Compile and summarize information on prospective donors for Development Director. Includes foundations, corporations, and individuals.
  • Fundraising Campaign Support Intermittent opportunity. Assist with envelope stuffing and labeling for mailing donation campaign letters. Excellent for groups.

Countryside Events

  • Event Tabling Intermittent opportunities. Greet event goers and provide information as needed. Must become familiar with Countryside’s programs, general park information. 
  • Speaker’s Bureau Intermittent opportunities. Present to area organizations on who we are and what we do. Must be trained on our presentations and be able to answer questions about the organization and know who to refer people to if you are unable.
  • Fundraising Events Intermittent opportunities. Assist with day-of activities related to fundraising, whether it is pancake breakfasts, hog roasts, friend-raising house parties or other.
  • Countryside Food Swap Assistant Flexible Hours. Plan logistics and coordinate locations of monthly Food Swap gatherings. Assistance may include promotion of events, gathering of supplies/materials, check-in/welcome at events, and reporting.Monthly gatherings held 3rd Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:30pm. 
  • Farm Tours Intermittent opportunities. Lead groups on tours of Countryside Initiative farms. Familiarity with sustainable agriculture practices helpful, but not required. Must be able to answer basic questions about Countryside, and know who to refer people to if you are unable.

The VIP program uses Volgistics for scheduling volunteers and tracking hours.
Using the Volgistics system is important for several reasons:

  • Reporting accurate hours to the National Park Service will help maintain and secure the most funding, grants, and other resources for CVNP and the VIP Program
  • Signing in to volunteer makes you eligible for federal workers’ compensation and other protection
  • Tracking your hours allows us to recognize you for your hard work
