Picnic in the Park at Countryside Farmers' Market

Spend a leisurely morning in the National Park!  In addition to our usual 60+ local farmers and vendors, we will be joined by a few visiting food trucks, and will have many family friendly activities.  Join our vendors Brighton Wool and Honey for a "Knit-In" and learn how to knit - or get help with an existing project.  Spring Garden Waldorf School will be there showing kids how to recycle plastic grocery bags into kites.  Great Lakes Shoots and Roots will be on hand helping kids make the biggest bubbles possible.  Also available will be corn hole, badminton, croquet, frisbees, and hula hoops.  Bring a blanket and stay all morning!  This event is free and open to the public.  For market purchases, Countryside Farmers' Market at Howe Meadow accepts cash, check, debit cards, and the Ohio Direction Card.  For more information, and to meet our farmers, click here.  Tip: Ride the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad to and from the market!

Peninsula Local Food Fest 2014

Explore Peninsula
Calling all foodies!  Join us for a day of food events as we celebrate the family farm, the local food movement, and all that is good which comes from the ground!  Some features of the day will include canning demonstrations, food and artisan vendors located throughout the village, local farm tours, Ohio beer and wine offerings, presentations of history of farming in the valley, the Countryside Initiative farming program, and much more!  This event is free and open to the public.  Click here for more information.

Gay Games 10k Road Race

The Gay Games 10k will be held within Cuyahoga Valley National Park.  Participants and spectators can park in downtown Akron and CVSR will transport runners from Akron Northside Station to the starting line at Botzum trailhead.  In addition, CVSR will transport spectators from Akron Northside Station to the race start and then back to Akron Northside Station (following the path of the race) for a nominal fee ($5/passenger in advance, $7/passenger on site).  Departure times from Akron for both participants and spectators are 4:45pm and 6:00pm.  Visit GG9CLE.com for information on participating in the race.  Visit cvsr.com for details on cheering on the runners via rail!

Champagne-Tasting Train - The Great Gatsby

"The Last Voyage" Murder Mystery Dinner Train

National Park Scenic Excursions

Explore Cuyahoga Valley National Park from the comfort of a vintage train car!  Passengers may board at:
  • Rockside Station - 7900 Old Rockside Rd, Independence, OH 44131
  • Peninsula Depot - 1630 W Mill St., Peninsula, OH 44264
  • Akron Northside Station - 27 Ridge St, Akron, OH 44308
Either enjoy a relaxing three-hour roundtrip, or get off to visit local attractions and catch a later returning train.  There are lots of choices!  The new Canal Exploration Center features in-depth exhibits for children and adults.  From Peninsula Depot, you can enjoy lunch or shopping in the quaint Village of Peninsula.  From Indigo Lake Station, shuttle by tram to Hale Farm & Village.  Or, de-board at Howe Meadow to visit the Countryside Farmers' Market (Saturday morning only).  Finally, from Akron Northside Station, Akron METRO provides free bus transportation to the Mustill Store, Akron Zoo, Spaghetti Warehouse, Lock 3, and Akron Art Museum.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $16 for seniors (Wednesdays through Fridays only), and $13 for children ages 3-12.  This includes the Voices of the Valley audio tour and processing fees.  For an additional fee, dining options are available on Saturdays and Sundays.  Tickets may be purchased in advance at CVSR.com, by calling 1-800-468-4070, or at the station 45 minutes before departure.  For a full schedule of departure times and updates, please visit CVSR.com.

Bike Aboard!  

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad
Bike the Trail, Ride the Rail for just $3!  Bike the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail in one direction, then hop on the train for a relaxing ride back to your car - or do it in reverse!  The train can be flagged down at boarding stations by waving both arms.  Please arrie 10 minute prior to the train's scheduled arrival.  Pay your fare when you board.  One way only: $3 per person ages 3 and up with bike.  Runners and hikers can take the FIRST train southbound or the LAST train northbound (one-way only) and receive the special $3 rate.  Please visitCVSR.com for a complete list of departure times and locations.
