Item 2: Countryside Initiative Model Lease

Attached is the text of the model lease developed for the 2001 round of Countryside Initiative farm leases. All leases completed for that offering used this model with no significant modifications.

It is anticipated that 2005 Countryside Initiative leases will be modified slightly from the 2001 model to achieve two purposes. The first purpose is a simplification and clarification of certain articles (such as Article 5: Rehabilitation and Maintenance of Premises). Second, the National Park Service is currently developing a standardized leasing model intended for general use throughout the Service. Hence, the text of the attached 2001 Countryside Initiative lease will be rearranged to comply with that format.

While such modifications and revisions have not cleared all of the many reviews they must go through, and are not available as of this website posting (8/19/05), they are not expected to fundamentally change the spirit or substance of the 2001 model lease. Proposers responding to question number 14 of the 2005 RFP should assume that the 2005 model lease will be very similar in substance to the original 2001 model.
